After the commercial practice lecture and a regular subscription to Full time Photographer school run by Successful commercial photographer Josh Rossi, I have made myself aware that pretty creative pictures are for no use. This makes it hard for a client to look at my portfolio and see a use for my photography to sell their boring product/service.
Like Josh mentions, if i like shooting fashion, i need to shoot it but consider adding a product in there to ‘commercialise’ the shoots i produce for myself. This helps a client see how my photographic style can be used easily to communicate their business.
Being aware of this at this moment in time is very important, preparing me for the future, current client work and when i leave university, having an already commercialised portfolio where anyone viewing it can see my style/subject matter and approach in a commercial context.
Attached an email from Josh regarding this subject.
